GROWING YOUR OWN FOOD IS EASIER THAN YOU THINK!
Grow 84 plants year-round without soil or weeding. Tower Gardens come with everything you need to get started growing your own vegetables. Join our membership and we'll get you started with seedlings so that you can start harvesting in 4 weeks or less.
Currently, Hawai'i's infrastructure does not support small farmers in a sustainable way. There are multiple barriers to land and water access, and farmers cannot compete with imported food prices. With Tower Gardens, we're hoping to mitigate these issues by sharing the infrastructure and labor with our members. By growing this way, we've significantly lowered labor and transportation costs and have eliminated the need for food packaging.
Tower Gardens use considerably less space, time, and water to grow food as compared to growing in soil. There is no weeding and the towers take ~45 minutes to set up. Harvests can happen in 2 to 6 weeks depending on what's planted. After the initial set up, maintenance can be as little as 30 minutes per tower a week to refill the reservoir with water and nutrients and test pH levels, depending on what's being grown. Cleaning the towers involves soaking, a little scrubbing, and rinsing.
When you become a Family Garden member, we make sure you don't skip a beat between cycles. Instead of waiting two weeks to get growing, we'll have seedlings for you to plug into your towers as soon as you set it up, and when you harvest, there'll be a new round of seedlings waiting for you.
We offer a wide variety of seedlings grown from organic and/or non-GMO seeds for Tower Garden growers plus additional nutrients and supplies to maximize growing and plant health. You can view our supply list by clicking here.
If you want to skip the farmers markets and grocery stores without having to do everything by yourself, the Family Garden membership is for you.

About:
Auwinala Family Farms dba Hawai'i Tower Farms aims to help families grow food without the physical and time constraints of traditional growing.
Land and water access and farm labor shortages continues to be a challenge for aspiring and seasoned farmers throughout the islands. By taking advantage of yards, lanais, and even indoor space, we can all participate in increasing Hawai'i's food supply. The more we grow our own food, the better we'll be able to manage any food shortages caused by interruptions in the supply chain.
Melissa Danielle has been a passionate community food systems advocate and builder for over twenty years in NYC and Hawai'i. She is a GoFarm and GoFish Alumni.
Land Acknowledgement
As a farmer living and working in Kailua, I humbly acknowledge that I reside on the unceded ancestral lands of the Kanaka Maoli—the Native Hawaiian people.
These lands were never relinquished and remain deeply rooted in Indigenous knowledge, stewardship, and sovereignty. I recognize the enduring relationship that Kanaka Maoli have with this ʻāina (land), which has nourished generations past and continues to sustain the spirit and resilience of the Hawaiian people today.

I recognize the enduring relationship that Kanaka Maoli have with this ʻāina (land), which has nourished generations past and continues to sustain the spirit and resilience of the Hawaiian people today.
I come to this land as a guest—originally from Brooklyn, New York, with ancestral roots in New Jersey, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Nigeria and other distant lands. I carry with me the stories and strength of my ancestors, shaped by histories of displacement, survival, and connection to land.
In acknowledging this place, I commit to honoring the cultural traditions, values, and struggles of the Kanaka Maoli. I strive to farm with respect for this ʻāina and in alignment with the principles of aloha ʻāina—love for the land—and to support the movement for the restoration of Hawaiian self-determination and food sovereignty.
This acknowledgement is not a substitute for action. It is a reminder to listen deeply, learn continuously, and be accountable to the people and place that have welcomed me.

Where do you get your seeds? Are they organic/non-GMO?
We order seeds from Hawai'i Seed Growers Network, Hawai'i Island Seed Company, True Love Seeds, High Mowing Organic Seeds, Botanical Interests, and Johnny's Seeds. These seeds are non-gmo and/or organic. We also save seeds for future growing.
What is the refund policy? What happens if I don't want to continue the membership?
We ask for a three (3) month commitment in order to fully support you through at least two growing cycles so that you can establish a rhythm and routine with the tower garden. We are also providing you with the materials to help you be a successful tower gardener. If you are unsure about committing for 12 months, please choose the payment plan option. We do not offer refunds once the billing cycle has begun, but if you no longer wish to be a member, you can cancel your membership before the next billing cycle occurs.
What kinds of seedlings and vegetables are available?
We are currently growing the veggies that come with the Tower Garden -- lettuce, arugula, kale, basil, and rainbow chard -- along with collards, cucumbers, tomatoes, green onions, edible and ornamental flowers, medicinal and culinary herbs, tatsoi, pak choy, and mustard greens. We do not recommend growing plants that have thick stalks and mint in the towers.
We rotate our selection with the seasons and availability.

In most cases, the tower gardens can go 7-10 days before needing to be refilled. If you expect to be off island for longer than 7 days, please contact us about getting access to your property so that we can fill the towers for you in your absence.
