Would you like a space to begin to make sense of what happened in your birth?

A birth story session is space for when:

• you can't seem to make sense of (feel angry, hurt, ashamed or grief-stricken about) the way your birth unfolded--or, even when the birth objectively 'went well', something feels unsettled or incomplete for you,

• you feel caught in an internal loop, still weighed down by what happened,

• your life, sense of self and relationships continue to be impacted by your birth, even after the midwives/doctors have signed you off and sent you on your way.

This isn't another debrief.

Birth story listening is a space for you to transform:

  • tell your story in a new way
  • ️find a new sense of clarity and understanding
  • begin to bring change to your life, sense of self and relationships

Birth experiences continue to impact our lives and parenting long after contact with midwives or doctors ends. Too many are left with feelings of regret, guilt, blame and shame that perpetuate suffering and struggle.

We need effective solutions that honour the complexity of our stories and the messy reality of birth - and that are accessible to us as parents - true Birth Story Medicine.

How it works:

This is a dedicated 1:1 session where we will focus on your birth story in a new way, giving space to what happened and how it is impacting you, and bringing new understanding / change.

Sessions last about an hour, and can take place online or in person (at Star & Well's dedicated studio space near Durham).

You may need one session or a few, the process is always responsive to you.

Testimonials

"Rebecca is warm and able to guide well in to hidden depths. I really trust her implicitly."

- Ellie C.

"Rebecca holds space beautifully and powerfully. She has a deep capacity to support you."

- Tania D.

"My life has gotten itself into a tangle that's bedding itself in and leaving me paralysed. Rebecca helped identify the threads and together we gently pulled at the ones that would lead to answers. In this way, she did not hand me answers that "should" work. My answers came from myself, which means they were specific to my situation and what is possible and helpful. Rebecca guided me in a gentle, nourishing way, full of empathy and understanding.

A major thing Rebecca can offer that not many people can, is she gets the lone parent experience. The reality of it. And so it's easy to open up without fear of collecting extra burden."

- CT

"I would unreservedly recommend you. Your active listening, reflecting back and gentle prompts are perfect. Just the right combination of challenge and support; you immediately created a safe space I I felt a wonderful sense of mutual attunement with you."

- Lynn HC

"Rebecca holds a beautifully grounded and enquiring space. She gently nudges and encourages you to find the answers within with curious questions and no pushing."

- Chloe J

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to do to prepare for a session?
You need a quiet space to connect where you are unlikely to be disturbed, a good internet connection (for Zoom sessions), pen and paper. That's it.
What happens in a session?
Birth Story Sessions are conversation based, a guided coaching / mentoring process that leads you through your birth story in a new way.
How many sessions will I need?
Generally, clients need 1-3 sessions, most noticing a difference after a single session. You are always welcome to continue the work according to your need and in the timing that suits you.
Where do sessions take place?
You can book your session on Zoom or, if you are local to me, I also see clients at my dedicated studio space at Ushaw near Durham, postcode DH7 7DW.
Can I bring my baby / child to my session?
Birth story work requires focus. It works best if you can arrange to be child-free for your session.

If you'd like to bring your baby and a carer along to your in person session, there are beautiful gardens, a cafe and ample changing spaces on site at Ushaw so you can be assured they will be comfortable whilst you are in session.
Can I do the session with my partner / spouse?
Birth Story Sessions are offered as 1:1 work. Your partner / spouse is very welcome to book their own session separately.
Who are you and what are your qualifications to do this work?
Hello, I'm Rebecca. I'm a mother to 4 (with a not altogether straightforward experience of parenthood myself). I began working with mothers and families in 2005, first as a LLL Leader, then training as a doula and childbirth educator.

I was drawn to birth story work following my work with breastfeeding and doula clients who came to me after difficult or traumatic birth experiences. In 2010, I began my journey with birth art and birth story listening.

I certified as a coach in 2024. In 2025, I completed an in-depth apprenticeship with Pam England in Birth Story Medicine.
I have a question that isn't answered here. How can I get in touch with you?
If you have a question you'd like to ask, email me at rebecca@starandwell.com. I aim to answer within 2-3 business days. You can also reach out to me on social media (Facebook or Insta @starandwell).
