There are very few structured moments in a young man’s life where he and his father step out of routine and into something that requires effort, cooperation, and presence.
This four-day sea kayak expedition is designed for fathers and sons (ages 14–18) who recognize that adolescence is not something to be managed, but something to be marked. We’ll paddle, camp, and work together in ways that honor a young man’s growing independence while strengthening the relationship that carries him forward.
We’ll paddle between remote islands off the coast of Maine, camp under open skies, cook as a team, and spend intentional time both together and apart. This is not a vacation. It’s a shared experience that asks something of both of you.
This intimate retreat is limited to 6 father/son pairs.
Day 1 – Departure & First Island
Meet in Bangor late morning and travel to Stonington, where we’ll outfit with professional guides from Sea Kayak Stonington. After kayak fitting and safety instruction, we launch and paddle to our first island campsite, with some time for cliff jumping along the way.
Evening includes camp setup, group dinner, opening circle with breathwork, and the first journal session using custom leather-bound journals (included for early enrollees).
Day 2 – Paddle, Explore, Separate
We break camp and paddle deeper into the Maine Island Trail system, navigating tides and coastline together.
Midday includes separate sessions:
- Sons-only discussions and challenge work
- Fathers-only reflection and leadership conversations
We regroup for dinner, campfire, and evening discussion under the stars.
Day 3 – Return & Ceremony
After our final morning paddle back to Stonington, we clean up and share dinner in town before heading to a classic Maine campground for hot showers and our closing ceremony.
On our final night, each father presents his son with a challenge coin (included in program fees). This is a priceless opportunity for your son to be recognized as the man he is becoming.
Day 4 – Return to Bangor
We travel back to Bangor in time for early afternoon departures, taking with us a lifetime of memories.
