Most career advice assumes you already know what you want. A lot of people don't. They're standing at "now what?" — and the honest answer is that they can't yet say. That's where people get stuck for years, waiting for clarity to arrive on its own.

Clarity doesn't arrive on its own. It gets built, in small pieces, from evidence you gather about yourself. That's what these four sessions are for.

Who This Is For

Anyone asking "now what?" at this point in their career.

You might be mid-career and quietly certain that this isn't it. You might have just been laid off and be deciding whether to look for the same job again or something different. You might be returning to work after time away — for health, for caregiving, for whatever life required — and finding that the path you left isn't the one you want back. You might have just graduated into a field you're no longer sure about, or considering going back to school but aren't sure what to major in (or if that's even the direction you want to move in).

Different starting points, same question. And the same problem underneath it: you can't think your way to an answer, because you don't have enough information yet about what these paths are actually like.

Maybe you have three or four vague ideas and no way to rank them. Maybe you've been told to "figure out your passion" and found that advice useless. Either way, this is for you if you're willing to do the work between sessions. Not enormous work — the assignments here are deliberately small — but the package depends on you actually testing things rather than just discussing them.

What You'll Come Away With

Throughout our sessions, you'll choose between 2-4 different paths you're considering and want to learn more about. You'll walk away with a list of directions you've actually investigated, not just imagined. You'll get a clear read on which skills you already have and which ones you'd need to build. You'll practice asking other people about their work — a skill that keeps paying off long after this package ends. And, you'll have a documented plan for what comes next, whether that's a targeted job search, a specific credential, or the informed decision to stay where you are.

Some clients finish having ruled things out. That counts. Knowing what you don't want is real progress, and it's cheaper to learn it in four sessions than in four years.

What to Expect

Four 50-minute sessions, across the course of 4 weeks. Each one ends with a small, low-lift assignment — something you can do in an hour or two, not a research project.

  • Session 1 — Where You've Been. We start with your intake and everything you've done: jobs, internships, coursework, volunteering, caregiving. What you actually liked and disliked about each, in detail. Then we name the 2-4 paths you want to explore during these four sessions and identify the smallest possible way to start learning about it.

  • Session 2 — Patterns and Skills. We look at what surfaced in your likes and dislikes, and what your first experiment taught you. From there we identify the skills a new direction would require, then go back to your resume to compare what you've actually done against what's on the page — often including a skills-based approach to your resume. Some directions get a next step. Some get dropped, and that's a good outcome.

  • Session 3 — Talking to People. We look at which skills you have and which you'd need to develop, then move outward: how to learn from people already doing the work. You'll leave with an outreach plan, a short list of people to contact, and questions worth asking. Informational interviews are a learnable skill, and most people do them badly because no one taught them how.

  • Session 4 — What You Know Now. We reflect on what the four weeks turned up, document it so it doesn't evaporate, and build your plan from here. By this point you've run several small experiments, and the pattern across them is usually clearer than any single one.

How to Prepare

Before Session 1, pull together a list of what you've done — jobs, internships, volunteer work, major projects. Titles and rough dates are enough, and it doesn't matter whether the list is long or short. If you want a head start, jot down what you genuinely liked and disliked about each one. Be specific. "The commute was bad" is less useful than "I dreaded every meeting that had more than four people in it."

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens after I purchase the package?
You'll schedule your first appointment and receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link and a brief intake form. From there, you can book your remaining sessions one at a time for the following weeks so that you can pick times that work with your schedule each week.
What if I don't have much work history — I just graduated, or I've been out of the workforce?
You have more material than you think. Coursework, internships, volunteer roles, side projects, hobbies, and caregiving all tell us something about what you're drawn to and what drains you. And the outward-facing half of this package — learning from people already doing the work — doesn't depend on your resume at all. If anything, having fewer years behind you means less to unwind before you can point somewhere new.
What are the assignments actually like?
Small on purpose. Reading a few job postings closely. Finding out what a certification actually requires. Sending one message to one person. The point is to generate real information quickly, not to build a research portfolio.
Is this the same as a job search package?
No. Charting the Course is what comes before a job search — figuring out what you're searching for. Many clients move into targeted job search work afterward, but that's a separate conversation.
What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy for sessions?
Please notify me at least 24 hours before a scheduled session if you need to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be forfeited. If something unexpected comes up, reach out and we'll do our best to work it out.
Is this coaching or therapy?
This is coaching. While this package draws on frameworks from psychology and incorporates well-being into the work, it is not therapy and does not replace clinical mental health treatment. If you're currently working with a therapist, this package can complement that work well.
