Count Me In
Grief forever changes us. It’s not a temporary challenge, but a world-altering reality. It can feel lonely and disorienting, even when we’re surrounded by others. Over time, we learn to mask our pain just to make it through the day. But the pain doesn’t go away.

We need times to soften into the grief, to turn and face it with intention. It’s there, waiting for us, sometimes just under the surface.

When we show up to meet our grief, we might be surprised by what we find—or, closer to the truth, be reminded of what was there all along.

“When I turned to face grief I saw that it was just love in a heavy coat”
~Shannon Barry

Gift yourself the time and space to turn toward your grief—not alone, but in a dedicated group of people who get it.

Why Writing?
Prompts-based freewriting is simply a way in
Timed writings give us a container to hold whatever is close and wants to be said.
It doesn’t matter if you write regularly or can’t remember the last time you picked up a pen. As long as you’re willing to write, this practice can open the door to the beauty that lies in the midst of the pain—the love wearing a heavy coat.

Write with Your Grief in Community
One part writing group (bring a notebook or journal and a pen), one part support group (receive and offer the witness that being in circle with others brings).
Best news? You don’t have to manage anyone—you get to simply show up and participate.

Testimonials

"Sara thoughtfully cultivated such a safe, present space, where everyone felt tangibly welcomed (but never pressured) to express their realest, deepest selves, and where our most vulnerable truths were then held beautifully in community."

- Sissix

“I don’t usually think of myself as a writer, but this showed me that I do have stories and insights worth sharing. The prompts helped me see my own experiences in a new light, and I left feeling inspired to keep writing as a creative and healing practice.”

- A.O.

"If you’ve ever struggled with not knowing what to write, I can’t recommend Sara's sessions enough. It was a real breakthrough for me.”

- Trisha

Frequently Asked Questions

When do we meet?
7 Saturdays:
October 10th - November 21st
10:00am - 12:00pm
Where will we meet?
The Grief Room in St. Paul, MN
https://www.thegriefroom.com
Do I have to be good at writing?
Absolutely not! This is a place to explore and to be messy about it. For real.
But, you know, you have to not hate it.

I'll say this every time we meet, but this is not about writing "good"...it's about writing true.

What kind of prompts do you use?
A mix of poetry, creative exercises, visual cues, and open-ended lines.
I am constantly collecting different ways in (that's all I see prompts as - an opening to get the writing started) and creating my own.
What if I'm still not sure this is for me?
Two options:

  1. Email me your questions: sara@saragracewrites.com
  2. Book a call with me, and we can talk through it, no pressure!

Also, if you're seeing this before September 23rd, I am offering a free virtual Autumnal Equinox gathering where we'll do a little writing. This is an easy way to get a feel for how I lead/what the writing times look like.

What if I'm really interested but don't know if it's in my budget right now?
There is 1 discounted scholarship spot available.
