In June 2022 I was on my way to the States with my family when I tested positive for covid and had to isolate for eight days in a villa on tropical island.

I used the time to write what was ultimately the first draft of this book. I shared my journey, using the writing process as a healing experience. Through this writing I realised that there was a part of my story that I had never shared with my parents, and if I ever wanted to publish it in a book (because our stories can heal!) then that meant I would well and truly have to tell them.

I had always flip flopped back and forth over whether to tell them or not for a variety of reasons, both of the selfless type and selfish.

I held off for almost a year.

In May 2023 I was on a weeklong book writing retreat in Bali, when I again tested positive for covid and had to isolate for five days in a villa on a tropical island.

REALLY??!! Really universe?! Some one / thing really wanted me to just sit my butt down and write this book. So I did. And in it, once again was the message

Cara you need to tell your parents.

So I flew back home to Adelaide, and with the support of the World's Best Husband, who didn't even blink as I told him "yes, I need to go" and booked a ticket for me to the States for the very next week.

It was time.

Almost everything I have done in the past two years has been an intentional step towards my healing, and beyond that, I can see the thread weaving through my life of everything else that helped me to heal.

Some of it was in the WORK but a lot of it was found just in living.

In this book I have let rise to the surface all of the stories that have contributed to my healing, and that I know will ultimately help our society heal from the sexual shame we carry that creates stories like mine in the first place.

How to be Naked  is a book about a girl who learned how to lie as she grows into a woman who learns how to trust her body - the only place our answers will ever truly be found. In my growth I have tapped into a power far greater than me, letting me know that oh, I am not totally in charge here. And yet, the only way to find that power is to get in touch with ourselves. To learn how to listen and how to feel and how to truly open up to love.
